Health Essentials - Neck Stretches

Wednesday, April 02, 2025

Hey there! Dr. Fedich coming at you with some simple neck stretches. There are a lot of great neck stretches out there, but we’re just giving you a simple routine to help you feel better.

The first stretch is done sitting in a nice chair. Take one of your hands and sit on it, or anchor it on the chair. Bring your other hand up and over, and stretch to the side. You’ll notice that your chin might want to turn a little, and that’s okay. Hold the stretch for ten seconds on each side.

Now, switch to the other side and hold for ten seconds. Afterward, we’ll move to some rotation. For this, gently rotate your neck. Use two fingers on your chin, apply a little pressure, and hold for ten seconds. Repeat on the other side.

So, for each side: hold for ten seconds for the side stretch, and then ten seconds for rotation.

Next, we’re going to do some chin retraction. Face forward, and many people tend to have bad posture from working at computers or desks. Sit up nice and straight. For chin retraction, use the same two fingers on your chin, push your chin back, and hold for ten seconds. You’ll see it’s not just about pushing the chin back; the whole neck shifts in. Hold that position for ten seconds and repeat it three times.

That’s really it for the neck—just three simple stretches: side stretches, rotations, and chin retractions. Do these twice a day, every day, and it’ll make a big difference in how you’re feeling.
